Drop a WAV file here

One file up to 2 GB. M4A, MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM work too.

Starting UFO Web…

The work happens in this tab. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Choose a WAV file or drop it on this page. M4A files and MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM videos work too.

  2. Pick the quality: 128, 192 or 320 kbps. The sound is decoded and encoded as MP3 in this browser tab.

  3. Download the MP3. Your original file is not changed.

Questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The work happens inside this browser tab, so your files never leave your device and no server sees them. Closing the tab clears them from memory.

How much smaller is the MP3?

A CD-quality WAV file takes about 10 MB a minute. As an MP3 it takes about 1 MB a minute at 128 kbps, 1.4 MB at 192 kbps and 2.4 MB at 320 kbps. WAV files with 8, 16, 24 or 32-bit samples or 32-bit floating point work; compressed WAV files, such as ADPCM, do not.

What are the limits, and which browsers work?

One file up to 2 GB and 4 hours long. Only the first sound track is used, and sound with more than two channels is mixed down to stereo. WAV files work in any current browser. Other sound is decoded with the browser's own codecs (WebCodecs): Chrome and Edge, Firefox 130 or newer on a computer, and Safari 26 or newer. If your browser cannot decode a file, the page says so as soon as you add it.

The same file engine is in the UFO apps for Android and Windows.
